Single Cup Coffee Maker Ratings

Editors of ConsumerReports.org, Not Dated

ConsumerReports.org tests around 40 single-serve coffee makers. Each one is tested for brew temperature, convenience and carafe handling. They ultimately recommend 5 models, but two have since been discontinued and one gets absolutely dismal reviews from owners.

Contributors to Amazon.com, As of November 2016

Amazon.com has hundreds of one-cup coffee makers in all types and price ranges. It is an excellent source for real world reviews of single serve coffee makers over the long-term because they often note durability and use issues that professional testers don't have the time to track. Ratings are all over the place in this category, with some very highly-rated machines by experts getting raspberries from users, while some cheaper machines score very highly.

Contributors to BedBathandBeyond.com, As of November 2016

BedBathandBeyond.com carries a good number of one-cup coffee makers and they get a good number of reviews as well. Reviews tend to be thorough and are broken down by value and quality. Reviewers can also say if they would recommend the coffee maker to a friend.

Contributors to Macys.com, As of November 2016

Macys.com has fewer one-cup coffee makers overall, and fewer reviews than some other sites, but it's a great source for higher end coffee makers from Cuisinart, Keurig, Nespresso and DeLonghi. Some of the coffee makers get hundreds or even thousands of reviews, others just a few. Reviewers have the option of adding demographic information about themselves, as well as saying if they would recommend the product.

Contributors to Walmart.com, As of November 2016

You won't find a lot of high-end coffee makers here, but Walmart is a good source for user opinions on brands like Keurig, Black & Decker and Hamilton Beach. You can find a plethora of reviews on those and other popular brands, as well as feedback on quite a few brands that aren't on anyone else's radar. Reviews tend to be thorough and somewhat more glowing than we find for comparable products at Amazon.com.

Contributors to Target.com, As of November 2016

There are significantly fewer total reviews for single-cup coffee makers at Target.com than at either Amazon.com or Walmart.com, and some are reviews originally posted on manufacturer websites. For the products we found, feedback tends to be more negative with lower overall averages as well.

Dan Evon, Nov. 16, 2016

Dan Evon gives an overview of a few coffee makers, most are automatic drip machines, but he includes the Bunn MCU My Café as well. He calls it the "best versatile option," noting that it's a great coffee maker for those who want variety. Testing methods are detailed at the end of the article, but it's clear that not all of the coffee makers were tested, or, if they were there are no tester notes, merely a list of features.

Editors of CNET, As of November 2016

Lots of coffee makers are listed here, and a number of them get thorough, hands on reviews by the editors of CNET. Every aspect of the coffee maker is examined, from appearance, to performance to speed. Even customer service is evaluated. However, there are only a handful of single-serve coffee makers reviewed and many of them have been discontinued.
